Answer :

In a YouTube play adaptation of "Nagamandala," the setting and stage design can still play a significant role in enhancing the audience's understanding of the story and its themes. The visual elements such as the backdrop, lighting, props, and costumes can help establish the mood and atmosphere of the play. A well-designed set can transport the audience into the rural Indian setting where the story takes place, immersing them in the cultural milieu and the characters' world.

"Nagamandala" is a compelling play by Girish Karnad that intertwines folklore, tradition, and human desires. The setting and stage design play crucial roles in enhancing the our understanding of the story and its themes. For example, the use of a simple, rustic village setting immerses the audience in the traditional milieu, reinforcing the cultural context and societal norms prevalent in the narrative. Additionally, the incorporation of symbolic elements such as the nagamandala (snake ritual) itself, along with evocative lighting and sound design, heightens the mystical and supernatural aspects of the story, enriching its thematic exploration of love, desire, and societal expectations.

An incident from the play that exemplifies this is the transformation of the protagonist, snake, into a Appanna, which is not only a dramatic moment but also underscores the power dynamics and consequences of repressed desires within the societal framework. The setting and stage design in "Nagamandala" serve as integral components in deepening the audience's engagement with the story and its underlying themes.
